Dr Stanley Cheung

MBBS, PhD, MRCP(UK),  FRACP, FHKCP, FHKAM, FRCP Edin

Dr Stanley Cheung is a medical graduate from the University of Hong Kong in 1996. He obtained his FHKCP in Haematology in 2005 following postgraduate training in Hong Kong and in Adelaide. 

He moved to Adelaide in 2008 and studied PhD with the international expert in chronic myeloid leukaemia (Professor Junia V Melo) and subsequently worked as a full time research fellow/postdoc fellow in Royal Adelaide Hospital and SAHMRI (South Australia Health and Medical Research Institute) from 2013. Dr Cheung is currently consultant haematologist at Lyell McEwin Hospital and honorary consultant at Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Dr Cheung is a clinical haematologist with particular interests in chronic leukaemia’s and multiple myeloma.

Dr Pratyush Giri

Dr Giri currently looks after Transfusion Services in the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

His interests are in both malignant and non-malignant haematology, with a special interest in the management of lymphoproliferative disorders.

Dr Cindy Lee

MBBS, FRACP, FRCPA


Dr Lee is a Consultant Clinical and Laboratory Haematologist who completed training in Perth, Western Australia. She then undertook a European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) clinical research fellowship in the UK, in the field of targeted radiotherapy in stem cell transplantation for haematological malignancies.

Dr Lee’s main area of expertise is malignant haematology in particular multiple myeloma. She sits on the Myeloma Scientific Advisory Group (MSAG) for Myeloma Australia and is currently working at both the Royal Adelaide Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where she participates in both clinical and diagnostic haematology services.

Prof Luen Bik To

Professor L Bik To was trained in Haematology on the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH)/Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science (IMVS) campus and rose to international fame with his pioneering work in blood stem cell cell transplantation.  As the Head of Haematology at RAH/IMVS, later SA Pathology, he established an integrated clinical/laboratory/research service that attracted staff from Australia and internationally.

His latest project is the South Australian Cancer Research Biobank which is acknowledged as a vital research infrastructure in SA.

Dr David Yeung

MBBS, FRACP, PhD (Adel)

David Yeung is a postdoctoral research fellow with the Cancer Theme at the SHAMRI. He also has positions with the Royal Adelaide Hospital and SA Pathology as a practicing haematologist and haemato-pathologist, and has affiliations with both the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia. He had training in clinical and laboratory haematology in Sydney before completing his PhD in Adelaide.

His focus is on improving outcomes for patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) and acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). Along with Prof Tim Hughes, David leads several national CML clinical trials, with the aim of optimising the use to tyrosine kinase inhibitors leading to improved efficacy and reduced toxicity. Innovative correlative study research projects attached to this clinical trials allow further understand of the biology underlying resistant cases.

David also has project with Prof Deb White of the Cancer Theme, who heads the national effort in understanding and improving outcomes in high risk ALL. He has co-authored 24 publications in peer reviewed journals and 2 book chapters in postgraduate text books.
